Batteries

Are you a brand holder of new batteries- single-use or rechargeable batteries weighing 5kgs or less?

Do you import and/or sell new batteries in Ontario?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, you are likely considered a producer of batteries in Ontario under Ontario's Battery Regulation. Learn more about the regulation here:

Why does that matter to you?

As a Producer, you will have new legal obligation to collect and recycle batteries.

The Government of Ontario has finalized a regulation to create a new recycling system that is based on individual producer responsibility in Ontario for batteries that is set to launch on July 1, 2020.

What is Individual Producer Responsibility (IPR)?

Individual Producer Responsibility means that as a Producer, you are individually responsible for the product and/or packaging you produce/supply into the Ontario marketplace at the end of its life. As a Producer, you have a diversion target, which is the amount of product and/or packaging you will legally be required to collect and manage at its end-of-life.

Ryse Solutions, a registered Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) since July 2018, has the experience to help you understand and meet your individual regulatory compliance requirements.
